"Rocky" Rocky Balboa Jacket

We have all had those defining moments when we noticed a film personality on the silver screen wearing a fantastic leather jacket. Or maybe you fell in love with James Dean’s iconic red windbreaker. You thought it looked so great and you knew someday you would have one just like it. This is a forum to discuss those jackets.

Great pics. In "Rocky Balboa" he just wears a black M-65 Propper field jacket with the olive drab liner.

I was just watching Rocky last night on TCM and I knew in a heartbeat that this place wouldn't let me down. Unlike the Rocky3 jacket, this jacket has a completely timeless design and one I really like. I kinda figured that a manufacturer wouldn't be known but could this have been made in-house?

Mike, any idea what the budget was like for Rocky? Was it a full-blown studio film or was it backed with less cash? Any idea?

Not my favourite jacket.
Certainly appears to have lumpy shoulder pads.

rocky was shot on a low budget.. it was the an indie for the time.. one of those artsy indies that took home the best picture oscar at the 76 oscars.. I doubt there were costumes made for this film.. im pretty sure thats all of the rack clothing picked out by stallone or costume designers.

Sorry Agent5, just saw this. Rocky was filmed in a record twenty-eight days with a budget of about $1 million, and actually grossed well over $100 million.

If a replica is ever made it MUST be called "The Southpaw".

Man, even for back then it was pretty much an independent film. $1Mil was nothing, even back then.

any one ever made a replica or found a very close version of this jacket? Not to get off topic, but this one and Escape from NY are too iconic jackets for me...an old timer...

Sorry to hop on this without any further info, but now looking at the jacket, I see what seems to be humps and outlines of shoulder pads. Does anyone else agree on that?

I'm a huge Stallone fan, but I can't stand this jacket. It's good for the character, yes. But I would never even think about this jacket to wear. Ugh.
It's pretty much a black leather car coat from the late 60s-mid 70s. Rocky was filmed in 1975 and released in 1976.
Tony, looking at the stills, it does appear to have shoulder pads. Ha.

Agent 5, as my personal fav jacket, I'd gladly wear the Rocky 3 jacket over this one any day.

Just me.
