FJ-0026 PROTOTYPE

Postby Rick » Fri Mar 30, 2012 2:58 pm

It is almost here. This is one that I have been waiting for...

Light Photoshop edits for security reasons... Not on the jacket body/sleeves though. Jacket is dark brown - with 2-sided leather. Some of you may have seen this style before?

For reference, this is lightweight cowhide, double sided leather. The inner red color has a slightly cracked appearance, like the original. We are using 6-ply cream color thread in front and on sleeves. The remaining thread is 1 ply - the outside thread is brown, the inside thread is red.

I am proud to say this looks like a very accurate prototype...

Double sided? That is fantastic news! Can't wait to see some additional photos of this jacket.

It's the Layer Cake jacket. There's a nice, long thread somewhere on this site about this jacket. Definitely one of my favorites.

Someone's spent too much time in the X- Related threads.

I KNEW I should have let someone else be the dumbass...

I've seen that jacket a time or two, but only in crappy screen caps. I never knew that thread detail was there! I REALLY like that jacket now!!!

We have been working on this jacket for a LONG time. I will have more images very soon.

Image

The big point is that we will be making this jacket available in a limited run. At this point, we have enough leather for approximately 8-9 jackets and there may be size limitations due to the cost and special nature of the two sided leather. The initial cost will be $400 each for these 8-9 jackets. After the introductory cost, I expect the cost to be $450.

This is steeper than we had hoped to go, and we are also looking into a less expensive version with a red lining that will keep costs in the standard $300 - $400 range.

It sounds very promising. Liner option a nice idea. Like t-shirt btw.

An impulse and funny story. I took the bike to the mall to pick up a few things and walked by a custom T-shirt store. I went in and told the design specialist that I would like to design a T-shirt that would advertise the site and look right on a motorcycle. He already had the Bladerunner font and did a great job accomdating my requests. He thought it would be best on the front so it could be read while wearing a jacket. My argument was that if I am wearing a jacket, it is because it is cold and it would be zipped while riding. I thought it would look better on the back since I do not wear a jacket all summer long and when you are hunched over a bike, nobody sees the front anyways. So I get home, take the shirt out of the bag and see that the design is on the front. I called him immediately and when I got back, he already had one made with the design on the back and it was given to me at no cost. I figured that Fred could wear it while showing bike jackets or something, and although this is not the image Mike and I want for the site, I thought it would be a fun one-off.

Beautiful jacket! If this comes in a DVDC size, I may have to break my "no new jackets in 2012" pledge!
